Decided to get out of Kingston for the weekend and go over to Port Antonio on the other side of the island on the west coast.
Drove out to a little beach called Frenchman's Cove (www.frenchmanscove.com) which is not too far from the main town, a little bit secluded and its a private beach so no hassles. Frenchmans is set in really lovely countryside grounds with a freshwater stream that runs from the mountains down into the sea right on the beach so as your walking out the temperature of the water changes from hot to cold and back to hot again.
The Sea was a little bit rough this time of the year so didn't get in there too far but the beach is really nice and theres a little cafe type restaurant there too. I did go for a swim in the freshwater stream though, be warned if you go, its bloody cold!! but once you've been in for a while its not too bad.
If the beach looks familiar, its been the setting for a lot of movie scenes including the 2010 Knight & Day starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz.
Once I'd turned pink it was time to go off and get some dinner and a few drinks so we headed to Anna Bananas just outside Port Antonio where I had been before with a friend Sean Callum a couple of years ago. The food was good, the red wine just as good and the setting is cool, right on the edge of the beach. Sometimes they have live music playing or theme nights but tonight it was oldies on the jukebox and just a really good chill vibe. (Facebook Wi Yard Anna Banana)
Not wanting to drive back to Kingston after all of that in 1 day, we had booked a room at the San San Tropez Villa Hotel and Restaurant which is pretty much opposite to the entrance to the Frenchmans estate. If your ever over this way for the weekend I would definitely reccomend it for an overnight stay or two. functional but comfortable and colourful rooms at a sensible price with friendly staff and a nice pool too.
